The Georgetown University School of Medicine had a website residing on an external server housed by chain Bridge Technologies. Because of the ending of the School of Medicine contract with Chain Bridge, the SOM wished to move to a server on campus housed and maintained by the Georgetown University technical services team.
The University had just completed a unified look and feel style guide as they were migrating from individual instances of web sites to a Drupal installation. The School of Medicine was willing to work within the parameters of the Georgetown University style guide in order to migrate to an on-campus server.
Designing the new School of Medicine website was a bit tricky as it was mandatory to work within and use the Georgetown University best practices and style guide while simultaneously trying to maintain an individual look and feel. The hardest part of this project was getting everyone on the same page. There were a lot of stakeholders involved as well as individual entities in the medical center that were not related to the School of Medicine and while designing by committee is never and easy thing I feel that we all walked away with the best representation of what was wanted by the school and individual departments.
